Ghost has just released an archive collectionGhost Archive

Today, nearly 40 years since its launch, Ghost is releasing an archive collection – and it’s packed with the timeless, silky separates that earned the brand its cult status in the first place.

Ghost has been known for beautiful bias-cut dresses since its birth in 1984. And when underwear-as-outerwear dominated the 90s, the British label set itself apart with a more casual take on the trend “sexy”; it helped with the signature viscose-satin fabric that flowed and pulled as beautifully as silk, but was far less high maintenance.

Ghost’s original concept could not be more relevant in 2023. After the pandemic and at the peak of a smart/casual lifestyle, women want a truly versatile wardrobe. Don’t forget the dinner desk, we want hard-wearing pieces that translate widely: they need to be suitable for the office and work from home, as well as Sunday lunch, weekend runs and those dinner parties you’re not himself as well. sure about the dress code.

But before we get to the designs themselves, we want to point out another huge milestone for Ghost. The Archive collection will introduce an extension of the brand’s size; and from Spring 2023, all styles will be available from UK8 to UK20.

The cult of the biased cut has traditionally been exclusive for decades – everything from the ever-present waifish supermodel images of the ’90s to the uncomfortably quick cuts have been kept restrictive. So we applaud Ghost for offering a more elevated perspective on the trend and for being committed to size inclusivity.

Take the matching tank top and slip skirt. They coordinate to create a formal dress, but can also be mixed and matched with denim, joggers and tailoring to create daytime looks. The satin T-shirt and drawstring palazzo pants are a dream team: they make great staples, whether worn together or alone, not to mention they come in a rainbow of candy colors. The grown-up pajamas are also a distinctive part of the lineup – worn with heels and lashing jewelery they look great in the evening, but are comfortable enough for working from home or sleeping in.

But if you buy one thing from Ghost’s Archive lineup, make it a slip dress. We’ve waxed lyrical about this piece as almost modern, and will continue to do so for years to come.

These iterations are particularly useful as they ditch spaghetti straps for something sportier and wider – this makes layering easier and helps steer the lustrous satin out of the lingerie realm.

Choose from delicate lilac and timeless polka dot midis, or the more dramatic floor-swept maxi solution. The styling possibilities are endless: base yours with a T-shirt or turtleneck top, wear a blazer over the top, pair with a knit to create the illusion of a slip skirt. About shoes? Switch between strappy sandals, Converse and lace-up boots for a nod to the brand’s ’90s days.
