The international music world gathered in downtown LA last night, where the giants of the industry attended the Grammy Awards 2023 – led by none other than Beyoncé.
Following her controversial trip to Dubai, and the release of tickets for her Renaissance World Tour which sent the beehive into a frenzy, the famously private singer has found herself firmly in the limelight of late. She didn’t shy away from it on Sunday night.
Her red carpet look, which she posted on Instagram, was a tin foil silver, custom Gucci design featuring a nude corset bustier, thigh high slit and flounced trim. Her silver lace-up heels came from affordable label Femme LA, and she completed the look with bicep-length leather opera gloves.
Jennifer Lopez, who was another sparkling sight in custom Gucci, joined her to increase the star power. JLo’s look was based on a racy bodysuit that faded into a navy blue train. She added oomph with strings of crystal embellishments falling from the bodice.
Elsewhere, the bells of the ball were blue. Taylor Swift embraced the trend, looking sleek in a Roberto Cavalli two-piece outfit that featured a floor-length maxi skirt and matching long-sleeve crop top. Both were deep blue, with starburst embroidery splashed across.
Cardi B followed suit, joining her husband Offset in one of the most sculpted styles of the night. The intricate, cobalt-colored frock looked to defy gravity, and was designed by Indian courtier Gaurav Gupta. The look debuted on the catwalk of Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris two weeks ago.
As expected for one of the biggest nights out in the music industry, many artists opted for high drama. This year, the statement makers were headlined by Sam Smith, fresh from controversy over their nipple tassel heavy music video, for new single ‘I’m Not Here To Make Friends’. However, the dispute was not due to the fact that Smith was a wallflower, however, because they arrived in a blazing red Valentino Opera coat, complete with a matching cane, top hat, veil, and leather gloves.
And there was more. Smith not only chose the voluptuous rouge, but went with a monochromatic ensemble. Singer Kim Petras, and Ru Paul’s Drag Race stars Violet Chachki and Gottmik – as well as four supporting models – stood on the red carpet alongside him.
Competing for most of the class was Lizzo, who sent in Florence Pugh’s floral bouquet. Midsummer, with an orange look embellished by Dolce & Gabbana. She was joined by my new boyfriend Myke Wright, just hours after breaking the news on Instagram. And the current queen of Avant Garde, Doja Cat, was turning heads in a skin-tight black latex dress by Versace.
But this year it was the boys who took the internet by storm. And one in particular; Harry styles. The singer took home the top prize ‘Album of the Year’, and stayed true to her flamboyant style in a sequined, rainbow-coloured suit with a Swarovski diamond encrusted pattern. The dazzling dungaree style was a custom look by EgonLab, a Paris-based label known for gender-fluid luxury clothing, and featured less than 250,000 hand-applied crystals, which took over 150 hours to construct.
Pharrell Williams also chose to support a younger label, as he wore a red leather tracksuit from up-and-coming Portuguese brand Ernest W. Baker.
