Amazon’s 43-inch Fire TV Omni Series is on sale

Do you need a new TV for your den, office, bedroom or some other location where the average size is just right? Look no further: For a limited time, Amazon’s 43-inch Fire TV Omni Series is on sale for $290. That’s a whopping $120 off and an unbeatable deal for a set that will last you a decade or more. The Omni Series is notable for a number of reasons, not the least of which is Amazon’s baked-in Fire TV interface. This gives access to not only all major streaming services, but also a great selection of games and apps.

What did we say about all those games and apps? Well, here’s some big news: Zoom has joined that roster. Big screen video calls, anyone? To use it, you will need a USB camera. Amazon recommends one of the Logitech webcams, but in theory any Zoom-compatible webcam should work.

All models in the Omni Series also support hands-free Alexa operation, meaning you can say things like “Alexa, turn on the TV,” or “Alexa, watch What We Do in the Shadows on Hulu,” without ever touching the remote. I honestly didn’t think that was a big deal until I started testing one of these TVs, but trust me: hands-free commands are pretty handy.

Features like that, along with the aforementioned app support, help give Fire TV an edge over Roku. And I say that as someone who tends to interface with the latter. Right now, especially with the addition of Zoom support, Fire is winning the smart TV war.

Ease of use versus performance

The Omni Fire TV is simple to use and gives easy access to all your favorite services, especially with the four buttons on the remote that allow you to jump straight to Prime Video, Netflix, Disney +, or Netflix. That said, some models—the 43-inch in particular—lack support for more advanced features. It does not support Dolby Vision at this size, even though the TV is the same does support this feature at the 65-inch and 75-inch sizes.

This model isn’t cheap, and larger sizes are available – but there are some features that aren’t available with smaller TVs. That said, it has three different HDMI ports, as well as a dedicated HDMI port for surround sound systems that will give you a more immersive experience.

Add a webcam (as seen on top here) to the Fire TV Omni Series and you can enjoy big-screen Zoom calls
